Singapore ranks 1st in the world for diabetes-induced kidney failure and 65% of the kidney failure cases here are caused by diabetes. Most people experience few to no symptoms at all until the damage is done to the kidneys. NKF patient, Mr Toh Eng Cheng shares with the hosts and guests on Body SOS that he was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was in primary 5 and was instructed by the doctor to administer insulin injections. However, once Mr Toh started working in his 20s, he found it a hassle to do the injections and neglected his diet. He was eventually diagnosed with diabetes-induced kidney failure in his 30s. "One should not take diabetes lightly. There are many health complications if you do not manage it well. It is important to seek medical help to control it early!"
