One of the finest producers in Chablis, Domaine Charly Nicolle was created with less than one hectare in 1979 by Robert Nicolle, whose winemaking family history traces back to Fleys in the late 19th century. Since the creation of the Domaine, they have steadily increased the size of their vineyards and currently the domaine produces wine from 20 hectares of vines. In 1999, they were joined by their son Charly, who had just graduated from the lycée viticole and today, Charly is officially in charge of the domaine. The largest holdings are in AOC Chablis, located around the village of Fleys and the vinification is on the lees, in stainless steel tanks, which produces a house style that is both fresh and vibrant, but also rich on the mid-palate. The 2020 Chablis Les Fourneaux 1er Cru is aged for 12 months on the lees using stainless steel and 400-liter demi-muids. Its hue is a lovely straw yellow and has a light, rather creamy bouquet that is attractive even if it does lack some definition and mineralité. Tasting is a festival of flavour… tender and abundant.
