Is your teen at risk of suicide? Understand the warning signs, and take the following steps to intervene: 1. Listen to understand. Recognise their struggles and show empathy, refraining from jumping in to give advice or solutions immediately. 2. Encourage them to seek help from mental health or counselling professionals. Offer to accompany them, if they wish. 3. If you believe they are contemplating suicide, call the Samaritans of Singapore 24-hour hotline at 1800-221 4444. As parents, we can take a preventive approach to teenage depression, anxiety, and thoughts of suicide. Sign up for the Alive to Thrive webinar on 15 Nov 20, 2-4pm. You will learn how to create a safe space for your child at home and learn to build on foundations of open communication and supportive relationships to protect their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
