Leukaemia accounts for 35% of all childhood cancers and is the most common childhood cancer in Singapore. Leukaemia is the cancer of the blood or bone marrow which occurs when there is an over-production of abnormal white blood cells.The disease is grouped into 2 categories: acute and chronic. In both acute and chronic leukaemia, the affected white blood cells inhibits the immune system’s ability to fight off viral infections. This abnormality often causes persistent fatigue , weight loss, as well as frequent infections and prolonged bleedings.
