What is your skin type? Know your skin better to care for it in the best way! The 3 basic kinds of healthy skin are dry, oily, and combination skins. It can be tricky to figure out what your skin needs due to how your skin reacts to the changing variable around such as diet, physical environment, and hormones. 1. Dry skin If you have dry skin, your face could constantly feel tight or dry due to the reduced sebum produced by your body. It is characterised as a dull skin color and rough skin texture. This could happen when hot water is used eg. from taking long hot showers. It will cause the skin to dry out and prevent it from retaining enough moisture by itself. When the skin becomes too dry, its outer layer may become stiff and start to crack, causing it to be irritated or itchy. Thus, it is important to use the right type of cleansers and moisturizers to help maintain the pH of the skin and lock water in skin cells. 2. Oily skin If you have oily skin, your skin will produce more sebum than what it needs and you may find your skin looking shinier throughout the day. Your skin is more prone to acne as the excess sebum production creates an ideal environment for bacteria growth and clogged pores which can lead to breakouts and acne. However, it is important to avoid over-cleansing your skin and stripping it of its natural oil. Opt for products that can help regulate your skin’s pH 3. Combination skin Some areas of skin may feel oily, while other areas can feel dry. Most combination skin have oily prone areas on their forehead, nose, and chin (also known as the T-zone) while the rest of their face remains normal or dry. It is recommended that we should use non-heavy products on the oilier portions of our skin and more moisturizing skincare on our dry skin areas. The trick is to balance the skin with soothing effective skincare to ensure that it does not become too oily or too dry on both areas. So which skin type are you?
