If you love Quinta Brunson’s Emmy-winning performance as Janine Teagues, you must check out a different version of her in THE TEACHERS’ LOUNGE – which is not a sitcom at all of course, though you may find yourself laughing at many points just to relieve tension. And also cringing, at how awkward the situation keeps getting. Leonie Benesch (barely 18 when she announced her talent in Michael Haneke’s “The White Ribbon”) is terrific as Carla Nowak, a well-intentioned teacher whose attempt to catch a serial school thief rapidly spirals out of control. What we don’t expect is for the recriminations that follow to suck the entire school into an unstoppable vortex, in an entirely plausible and nerve-shredding way.
