Boys and girls, do you know all the local legends about Singapura? Let's learn more about these legends to celebrate National Day! Scroll through the pictures and see if you can guess what stories our Young Storytellers are telling! If you guessed either ‘Badang Perkasa’, ‘Attack of the Swordfish’, ‘Sang Kancil and the Crocodile’ or ‘Sang Nila Utama’ then you're correct! ‘Badang Perkasa’, otherwise known as ‘Badang the Magnificent’, was the strongest man in Singapura! But Badang wasn't always the strongest man, he was once upon a time a young slave boy. Until he met a hantu air (water spirit) 😱 'Attack of the Swordfish' should be a familiar story, about how swordfish attacked villagers and caused harm, until a smart boy suggested using banana stems to stop them! 🍌 Sang Kancil was a witty creature who loved playing tricks and Sang Buaya the crocodile was no exception to these tricks. Imagine his confusion when the feast Sang Kancil promised him was simply a ruse to cross the river 😂 Sang Nila Utama, the founder of Singapura, named it after the lion he spotted on the island he landed on, after going through a big storm 🦁 Keep a look out for these stories all month long as our Young Storytellers tell it at various venues! Note: Photos 1, 3 & 5 were taken during storytelling sessions before COVID-19. 📷: Photo of Young Storyteller Charlotte by Zane Motalif #YoungStorytellers #LittleListeners #TerrificTales #OnceUponATimeStorytelling #StoryFestSG #RedDotAugust
