Habitation Velier is the ultimate rum project. A range of limited bottlings made in exclusive partnerships with the best rum producers. 100% pot still rums, unaged or aged entirely locally, at high proof or full proof, without any sugar or additives. Created after Luca Gargano launched a new way of classifying rum. Inspired by Single Malt Whisky Classification, the Gargano Classification defines rum by its raw materials and methods of distillation. It is objective, exhaustive and free from interpretations. We’re excited to introduce 3 new expressions to our shelves, both digitally and physically. 1/ Privateer is one of the newest additions to the Habitation Velier range and the first American rum to be featured in this collection. The distillery was founded by Andrew Cabot, descendent of a merchant rum distillery and American privateer during the American Revolution. 2/ Hampden 2016 H unveils another mark in the Hampden series bottled by Habitation Velier. A typical example of high ester rums, it is less extreme compared to its predecessors HGML and CH. 3/ Mhoba 2017 is the result of a partnership between Luca Gargano, president of Velier, and Robert Greaves, the founder of Mhoba. Mhoba rums are produced from the Nkomazi variety of sugar cane grown on the farm adjacent to the distillery. The sugar cane is cut by hand and pressed by an in-house developed mill. The cane juice is fermented in part by a local baking yeast, as well as wild yeasts. The distillation is conducted with a pot still designed by Robert Greaves. The particularity of this still is to favour a maximum reflux in order to develop heavy and particularly aromatic rums.
