“𝐒𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐦𝐲 𝐡𝐚𝐢𝐫 𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐲 𝐝𝐚𝐲?” is probably a question many of us wonder from time to time. The truth is, how often you need to wash your hair very much depends on your hair type, texture, concerns, and condition. For instance, those with really fragile hair may have strands that become easily damaged by the act of washing. Washing of hair can then be a weekly affair. Meanwhile, some people produce enough oil to need to get a hair wash daily or at least every other day. 💁🏻♀️💁🏻 Straight, thin hair may also need to be shampooed more frequently than curly or wavy hair since pin-straight hair is easily coated by sebum, which means it looks greasy much faster. 👵🏻🧓🏻 It’s also worth knowing that your scalp condition may change with age. While you may have once struggled with an oily scalp, it can slowly become drier as you age. ☀️ In our humid weather, washing our hair every day certainly makes our hair look and feel better but the truth is, you still need the sebum that your scalp produces as it is vital to healthy, shiny hair. 🛁 Overwashing your hair to the point where it’s squeaky clean can be your express ticket to a bad hair day. That’s because hair that is completely free of this natural oil can feel coarse, look dull, and be difficult to style. In some cases, the scalp may end up becoming so dry that it triggers dandruff. If you need to wash your hair daily, try shampooing just the roots of your hair - the ends will be cleaned when you rinse the shampoo out of your roots anyway. ☑️ If overwashing has created a bout of hair problems for you, you can consider these alternatives to the traditional shampoo instead: dry shampoo, cleansing conditioners (a.k.a co-washing), or water-washing to extend the time between washes.
