Do you know that there is a happening grandma who is frequently engaged in virtual programmes? Meet 85-year-old Madam Tan Poh Hean who enjoys a game of Bingo with her friends via Zoom. Seemingly a proficient user of virtual meeting platforms, Madam Tan shares that this isn't the case back in early 2020. "Language was a challenge for me, and I am still not very sure about the functions at times," laughs Madam Tan recalling the obstacles she faced. This is still true, as we still witnessed candid moments where Madam Tan asked her friends, "Can you hear me?” For Silver zones like Radin Mas, Madam Tan is one of the many Seniors who picked up digital skills through the early efforts of Radin Mas CC in promoting digital literacy among the residents. When Covid-19 hit, many participants including Madam Tan were impacted by the suspension of programmes. The staff at Radin Mas CC and community partners such as Montfort Care’s GoodLife!@Telok Blangah were concerned about social isolation in seniors. Muhammad Afif, Senior Programme Executive of GoodLife! @Telok Blangah recalls, "Our topmost concern was to help Seniors stay connected and contactable. Some of these seniors did not even have access to a communication device." Afif adds, "We partnered with Radin Mas CC through the Silver Clicks Programme to organise digital literacy training and running of virtual programmes, We also made communication devices available to the needy seniors." David Chan, Deputy Constituency Director of Radin Mas CC adds, "The Silver Clicks Programme is able to extend its reach to seniors through collaboration with like-minded partners. With this, many seniors like Madam Tan can be meaningfully engaged even with existing limitations on face-to-face interactions." #PeoplesAssociation #ACaringCommunity
